May visitors are expected to spend more than $2.7 million in the Augusta area, according to the Augusta Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The largest draw is predicted to be the GHSA State Golf Championships, which will be held at 13 courses across the area. More than 2,500 visitors are expected to spend a total of $505,400 between May 3-8.

The group expected to spend the largest amount of money is the U.S. Tennis Association’s Georgia Adult League Championships, with a total of $622,652.

Most groups visiting in May are coming for sporting events.

“It’s not too hot yet, and we have a lot of great sports events filling up our hotels on the weekends,” said Peggy Seigler, the bureau’s vice president of sales and marketing.

Other draws in May include the Daughters of the American Revolution state conference and the Take Off Pounds Sensibly annual meeting.
