Two Moms Cookies to open on Central Avenue

  • Follow Local Business

Maggie Douglas and Lou Boone say they have been baking cookies for years, but they never imagined it would turn into a business.

Douglas and Boone are the owners of Two Moms Cookies, a shop opening Oct. 25 at 2569 Central Ave. The store will sell cookies individually, or in large quantities for events and parties. To start off, the store will offer six to eight kinds of cookies, such as chocolate chip, sugar, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin, ginger and decorated iced cutout cookies.

The decorated iced cutout cookies are what Douglas and Boone expect to be their most versatile cookie, because they can make them for just about any occasion, including corporate events, baby showers and tailgate parties.

“If we don’t have the cutout you want, we can use one you already have. If you don’t have one, we will try find one and just order it,” Boone said.

The cookies at Two Moms have no preservatives and are made from scratch daily. The recipes and ideas come from Savannah cookie shop Two Smart Cookies, which has received national acclaim from Paula Deen and Southern Living magazine.

The owner of Two Smart Cookies is a cousin of Douglas’ husband and agreed to share her secrets with the Augusta shop.

“She’s been sending my family cookies for years,” Douglas said.

Douglas and Boone both live near Summerville and wanted to be a part of the commercial area at the intersection of Monte Sano and Central Avenue

“We love Summerville, and I feel like this area is really picking up,” Boone said. “We want our store to be warm and welcoming and for people to feel like they can just drop in and get a cookie anytime.”

It's nice to see local

It's nice to see local Summerville people taking an interest in the commercial areas of the neighborhood. Eventually, this area of Monte Sano and Central could be a place where one can park a car and simply walk around from shop to shop -- and enjoy it. At the other end of the neighborhood, the Kings Way tip is prospering. It will be really special when someone takes on the old fire house and develops it. Good job ladies; I'll spend some money with you.

To bad Comcast takes up three

To bad Comcast takes up three prime retail spots for their equipment. If these store fronts could open up it would be a game changer. DD
