Bridgestone project announcement coming Wednesday in Aiken County

  • Follow Local Business

South Carolina’s governor will be at the Aiken Bridgestone facility today to participate in an economic development announcement.

Although the announcement from Nikki Haley’s office doesn’t specify the investment at the plant, the company in July announced a $135 million project to expand tire production in Aiken County.

Bridgestone said the 266,000-square-foot expansion will add 122 jobs to the plant, starting in early 2013.

The Aiken County facility makes various Bridgestone tire models, such as Turanza, Protenza and Dueler. The plant has been in operation since 1998 and employs 900 people.

The state’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development will meet about four hours before to the announcement Wednesday regarding incentives for an unnamed project in Aiken County.
