Club Car CEO Gary Michel has been promoted to head Ingersoll Rand Residential Solutions in Carmel, Ind., and oversee brands such as Schlage and Trane.

Gary Michel, who has been CEO since 2007, was promoted to head Ingersoll Rand Residential Solutions, the company announced Thursday.

Ingersoll Rand Chairman Michael Lamach said that a search was under way for Michel's replacement at Club Car and that an announcement was expected soon.

Michel will leave Augusta-based Club Car on Aug. 1.

"Gary is an outstanding, results-oriented leader who has driven growth of our Club Car business during a difficult economic market," Lamach said.

In his new role, Michel will be based at the Residential Solutions headquarters in Carmel, Ind., and oversee brands such as Schlage and Trane. Michel has been with Ingersoll Rand for 26 years.

"Club Car is a special company and a unique culture. I'll miss the people and the passion they bring to their jobs," Michel said.

During Michel's tenure, Club Car produced its 2 millionth vehicle, only nine years after the company passed the 1 million milestone. Michel also was instrumental in expanding Club Car's presence in nongolf segments, including utility and low-speed vehicles, in addition to expanding the company's reputation in international markets.
