The property that once housed a Toyota dealership on Washington Road in Augusta has a new owner.
Local car dealer Jeff Richards purchased the property at 3069 Washington Road from CAR DAR GA AUG earlier this week.
Richards is co-owner of Bob Richards Nissan and Toyota dealerships across the area.
He said he has no specific plans for this property, but bought it as an investment for the future.
"It's sitting there waiting," he said. "Hopefully sometime down the road we'll figure something out."
The amount paid for the property was not disclosed. Richmond County doesn't yet have the sale recorded, but values the land and building at $3.8 million.
CAR DAR GA AUG paid $12 million for the land and dealership in 2008.
The building has been vacant for more than two years.
Toyota of Augusta was previously located on the property, but the dealership was bought by Milton Ruben Motors in January 2009 and moved to Milton Ruben's family of dealerships at 3514 Washington Road.
I think he should turn the building into a huge Mexican restaurant! Or maybe a huge nail salon! We could always use another cellphone store..this time a HUGE one! Hey, how about another steak house...this one would of course be HUGE, so how cool would that be?...no more waiting in line for 2 hours for a table!!
Just one more example of Augusta not putting a true value on property.
The owners bought it for $12 million and Augusta says it's only worth 3.8 million. How could the owners complain about the tax value if they paid THAT for it?? If these high dollar properties are valued properly, the average homeowner could get a break or maybe enough police officers!!-------(see Regency Mall and thousands of others)
The $12 million figure included the sale of the land and dealership...
I think the property was sold for $4.3 million... $4 million for 7 acres on this part of Washington road in West Augusta sounds right... Tax Slayer purchased 1.4 acres in Evans(Marshall Square) for $475k...
The $12 million was what the former owner had borrowed against the property. Not its value. Thats why he went bankrupt and owes more than $83 million in depts and and working for a stationary company.
countyman---It would be nice if you posted facts instead of what you "think" it might have been.
Im trying to understand why this is news. Commercial land is bought and sold every day in Augusta. If the buyer doesn't have plans, why mention it in the paper?
How about a 500 person barber shop and give finger waves?
