Grants make way for jobs

COLUMBIA --- Hundreds of jobs could be coming to nearby Richland and Lexington counties, which is good news for Augusta-area job-seekers willing to commute.

The South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved several grant requests from companies.

Among them was one in Richland County for $2 million to assist with a building up-fit on a $461 million investment that is expected to create 500 jobs.

Another was $100,000 for a Lexington County company to help with land acquisition related to a $120 million capital investment and the creation of 1,250 jobs.

Kara Borie, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Commerce, said the names will not be made public until the projects have announced.

Lexington County borders Aiken County to the east, and Richland County, home of the state capital, lies east of Lexington.

The General Assembly created the Coordinating Council for Economic Development to help state agencies coordinate economic-development efforts.

The council includes the heads of the state Department of Commerce, State Ports Authority, S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism, S.C. Department of Agriculture and S.C Technical College System.

Will felons be allowed to

Will felons be allowed to obtain employment? Seems like the only way you'll get a decent job in Richmond County is if you don't have a past or a past that's not on record.

The Amazon distribution

The Amazon distribution center is going to be in Caycee near the Columbia airport. Both of these places are pretty far from Augusta. When is Augusta going to land something like this?
