Augusta Sam's Club expansion nears completion

  • Follow Local Business

Sam's Club has nearly completed its expansion, adding several new departments and expanding others.

The store at 596 Bobby Jones Expressway has added almost 30,000 square feet, including a pharmacy, optical center, photo lab and a rotisserie section in the fresh-food area, said club manager Corey Coile.

"We're one of the last ones that didn't have many of these (departments)," Coile said.

Outside the store, Sam's Club has added a gas station with 12 fuel pumps and has repaved its parking lot.

The entrance has been moved to the center of the parking lot, making it more convenient for customers, he said.

Expansion of the store's deli and produce departments should be completed by Sept. 30, he said.

The expansion project began in October, bringing Sam's Club to 136,000 square feet.

The retailer has added 30 employees for its new departments and plans to hire several more, Coile said.

Customers don't have to be members of the warehouse club to use the pharmacy or participate in Sam's Club's flu clinics, pharmacy manager Danielle Allen said.

The pharmacy will offer its first flu clinic from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Sam's Club will hold its grand reopening ceremony Oct. 20, Coile said.

Their parking has been a mess for the last 1-2 years, it discourages me from going there.

I'm starting to wonder what

I'm starting to wonder what service Walmart and Sam's won't offer? They now sell groceries, auto services, eye exams, toenail cleanings and guns.

Really what will they come up with next? Funerals? Bring the deceased to the back entrance for embalming, dressing up and burial in a Walmart perpetual care cemetery that starts where the parking lot ends. The cemetery has pathways for shopping carts so you can visit your loved ones while waiting for your new tires.

To all the detractors, it's

To all the detractors, it's capitalism at work. If there wasn't a demand, there would not be a Sam's or Walmart.

csrareader, there's also

csrareader, there's also demand for Justin Bieber. Just because its demanded by some doesn't make it desirable for me to live in a world of Bieber.

concord, that's true. We

concord, that's true. We have the right to dislike Bieber and/or the stores, but as long as demand is there, and it's legal, that's all we can do -- dislike. There is someone willing and waiting to make a buck off anything in demand. Capitalism, plain and simple, and that's the way it should be.

Sam's still gives out free

Sam's still gives out free food samples. I agree that the parking has been terrible for a long time now and is my big gripe about the place. If you go around mid-day Saturday, you may have to park in front of the tractor store.
