A year after announcing equipment upgrades at its glass fiber manufacturing plant in Aiken County, AGY Holding Corp. is beginning to hire equipment operators.
On Tuesday, the company’s personnel services firm, MAU Workforce Solutions, said it will have a hiring event June 1 for jobs paying between $8.65 to $19.18 per hour.
The glass fiber plant last year announced through the South Carolina Department of Commerce that upgrades at the Wagener Road facility, which also serves as its corporate headquarters, would create more than 80 jobs.
The company’s glass fiber and glass fiber yarns are used for such products as circuit boards, reinforced tape and ballistic armor.
MAU said its hiring event will seek to fill entry-level, direct-hire, temporary and part-time positions. The June 1 event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Aiken Electric Cooperative Building at 2790 Wagener Road in Aiken.

The manufacturing plant was built in 1979 by Owens Corning. AGY, formerly Advanced Glassfiber Yarns, was launched in 1998 as a joint venture and became an independent entity in 2004. The company also operates a manufacturing plant in Huntingdon, Pa.
In a statement last year, AGY said the Aiken expansion would occur incrementally over a five-year period, with hiring occurring as new “capacity is placed into service.”
AGY says its hourly employees have an average of 17 years of service.
