Six Reid’s grocery stores in South Carolina will close this week and reopen June 6 as Bi-Lo stores.

“These new stores are not the Bi-Los customers think they know,” Allen Reavis, Bi-Lo’s regional vice president, said in a news release.

Bi-Lo Holdings will work with Reid Boylston, the director of merchandising for Bi-Lo and Reid’s founder, to “marry the best of the Reid’s with the best of Bi-Lo” at six Reid’s locations and eight South Carolina Bi-Lo locations on Pine Log Road in Aiken; Carolina Square in Edgefield; two in Orangeburg; and stores in Batesburg, Hampton, Bamberg and St. Matthews.

The eight existing Bi-Los will adopt several popular Reid’s products and programs.

New and continuing features at all 14 stores will include store hours from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., breakfast served daily, Fuelperks! rewards, Bi-Lo bonus cards and weekly deals.

Reid’s locations in Barnwell, New Ellenton, Aiken, Warrenville, Saint George and Saluda will close Saturday.

Bi-Lo Holdings purchased Reid’s, Harveys and Sweetbay grocery chains from Delhaize Group in 2013 for $265 million.

@Gage

The other Reid's in the Aiken area is at the intersection of York Street and Rutland Dr/Rudy Mason Pkwy. There's a Bi-Lo diagonally across the intersection from it that is closing down (a much newer location than the Reid's, even) while the Reid's is turning into a Bi-Lo. The Aiken-Augusta Highway location baffles me, as it's just a short drive up the road from the Bi-Lo in Clearwater...so two Bi-Lo's that close together. Not that I mind, since the current Reid's location there is closer to my home, just seems odd to keep both.

@bdouglas... Thanks for

@bdouglas...

Thanks for filling in the details.... I'm sure somewhere there is some logic to support the location of these stores, but for the life of me it seems to make no sense to be able to throw a baseball (figureatively) from a CVS to a Walgreens, or a Lowes to a HomeDepot, etc.

Ah! come on, didn't ya'll Love those commercials?

My wife would reach up and hit OFF before she would have to listen to
the infamous lines.

"REIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS"
" SAAAVVEE ME MOONNNEEEY"

But with that said....

They had better meat and grocery prices than the big names.
Even if they looked like a PIGGY in need of a Facelift.

Didn't the Reid's do this

Didn't the Reid's do this with Food Lion at one point? In any event, Reid's will be missed, end of an era.

@my.voice

Reid's is a subsidiary of Food Lion....or was. Food Lion converted many of its older stores into Reid's locations years ago. The one strange exception was the one on Aiken-Augusta Highway that was only open as a Food Lion for a few months before it was converted to Reid's. This is also why all Reid's locations accept your Food Lion MVP card.
