Urban Outfitters reports higher sales, lower profits

Specialty fashion retailer Urban Outfitters reported earnings of $37.5 million for the first quarter, down from $47.1 million from the year ago quarter.

The Philadelphia-based company operates a 225-person call center in Columbia County. Urban Outfitters operates stores under its namesake and Anthropologie, Free People and Terrain.

The company reported net sales for the first quarter at $686 million, up from $648 million in the same quarter last year.

“While Anthropologie and Free People continue to deliver record levels in sales and profits, Urban Outfitters had a disappointing quarter and is working diligently to regain its fashion footing,” said CEO Richard Hayne.
