Jobless claims drop in Augusta, metro area for November

Initial claims for unemployment insurance, a measure of layoff activity, was down in the Augusta metro area in November, according to data released Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor.

There were 1,183 first-time claims for jobless benefits in November, down 26 percent from October. Claims were also down 28 percent compared to November 2012.

Richmond County, which normally accounts for more than half of the jobless claims each month, dropped from 939 in October to 709 in November, according to the state.
