Medical supply manufacturer Covidien reported higher quarterly sales, but lower profits on Friday.

Covidien operates a facility in south Augusta that, according to the Augusta Economic Development Authority, employs 850 people, making it the county’s second-largest manufacturing employer.

The company reported fiscal fourth quarter operating income of $472 million, compared to $475 million in the quarter in 2012.

Net sales for the quarter were $2.56 billion, up from $2.50 billion a year ago.
