Dan Blanton, the chief executive officer for Georgia Bank & Trust, was elected vice chairman of the national banking organization Tuesday at its annual convention in New Orleans, meaning he will be chairman-elect next year and then chairman in 2015.

Blanton was elected to the association’s board of directors in 2010 and has been a member of its Community Bankers Council since 2004.

“This is a tremendous honor for Dan to serve the industry in such an important national role and is a great recognition for Georgia Bank & Trust,” said E. G. Meybohm, the chairman of the bank’s board of directors.

Jeff Plagge, the president of Northwest Financial Corp. in Arnolds Park, Iowa, will serve as the new chairman. The chairman-elect is John Ikard, the president of FirstBank Holding Co. in Lakewood, Colo.
