Robert F. Bennett, a project manager for Richmond County’s agency since Oct. 2009, will be named to the position after the mandatory 14-day period expires, said Doug Duncan, the chairman of the search committee of the Columbia County authority’s executive board.
“In recruiting, it’s rare to find a candidate with the exact experience you’re looking for and have strong local knowledge,” Duncan said. “Robbie Bennett is that candidate.”
By state law, agencies must wait 14 days after naming finalists before hiring for a vacant executive-level position.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to be considered for this position,” Bennett said. “Columbia County is a great community,
and it has such a great potential.”
Bennett would replace Troy Post, whose contract as director expired in December and was not renewed.
The résumé of Bennett, an Augusta resident, lists his work with bringing more than 2,200 new jobs and $600 million in capital investment to Augusta through companies such as Rockwood Pigments, Starbucks and Rural Sourcing Inc.
Before coming to Augusta, Bennett served two years as director of research and development for the Greenwood Partnership Alliance in Greenwood, S.C., and two years as a research analyst for South Carolina’s Department of Commerce.
Bennett, 34, is a graduate of Silver Bluff High School with an undergraduate degree from Lander University in Greenwood, S.C. He holds master’s degrees in public administration from the University of South Carolina and in business administration from Augusta State University.
He is married and has one daughter.
