Washington Road Krispy Kreme closed for renovations

  • Follow Business

The Krispy Kreme at 2866 Washington Road closed Monday to undergo extensive renovations for the next 45 days, a company official said.

“They are taking the inside of the store down to the floor and walls,” said Walt Potter, the general manager of the Krispy Kreme on Gordon Highway.

The Krispy Kreme corporation reacquired the Augusta franchise from the local owners in August and is updating it to make the interior more like newly constructed stores, Potter said.

After the renovation is completed in early April, customers will have a better view of the doughnut-making process, he said.

“It will be an even better experience for our guests to enjoy Krispy Kreme,” Potter said.

Dear God! No KK on Washinton
Unpublished

Dear God! No KK on Washinton Rd for 45 days? Office productivity in that section of town will decrease by 20%, not to mention folks having to ramp up their neighborhood watch patrols due to lack of police patrols.

It needed a redo

That was 1 of Herb Beckum's old Fina Gas stations
and they did not change the layout much when they moved in.

I haven't had but a couple of hot glazed in the past ten years; but it wasn't for lack of desire! I believe I could take a quart of milk and slurp up a dozen of them if I were of a mind to.

More private investment

I'm glad to see the recent improvements along Washington rd, but the area can use additional plants/trees/landscaping. Also, demolish some of the older motels in order to construct a few mid rise office buildings.

Countyman

What has to happen for Washington Road to change its complexion to something more like the stretch going into Hilton Head, or innumerable other places I've been in the past few years where architectural requirements more or less disguise the developments?

Washington rd will change

Let's hope the demolishing of the I-Hop and redevelopment of the Big Tree shopping center/Greens on Washington apartment complex is the new beginning. Those developments can work together with the 4k sq. ft retail buildings in front of Kroger, restaurant on Sherwood Drive, and the 7k sq. ft center replacing the gas station near Zaxbys. The Knights Inn, Parkway Inn, Motel 6, and West Bank Inn can all be replaced.

Well, my question still is...

Are there any zoning regs or plans to have any, that require new development or facelifts to follow certain rules of aesthetics? You can go through some commericai area in other cities and you wouldn't recognize right away that you are in such an area. I think that would be very becoming for Augusta to change its character around the ANGC.

I hate that the KK on Bobby

I hate that the KK on Bobby Jones closed. We SERIOUSLY need a KK in Evans!! Well, maybe not seriously, but it'd be really nice. Dunkin' Donuts just isn't the same. And I had to laugh when I read the one comment about someone being able to easily eat a dozen doughnuts in one sitting! Me too, buddy....me too!

I love that architectural planning where every building looks just like the building beside it and the building beside it and so on and so on. A visual cue for ad nauseam.

Rudyard Kipling's IF (modified)

If you can venture beyond Deans Bridge and yet vow to return,
If you can ride in South Augusta, without the fear of burn.

If you can suffer the slings of a thousand cars, blinkers ever silent
and yet, not be contaminated by the smell of factories foul scent.

If Round orbs of sugar coated flavor. rise daily to the top
they await you as they float uphill, into your mouth to drop.

The sign flashes "Fresh Donuts" to guide you to it's treat.
If you, my friend, can venture, to the Southside of town to meet.

This one should be replaced as well, the roof is caving, potholes, drug labs, the pool cannot be opened. Trash.

Good to hear. Now maybe do

Good to hear. Now maybe do something with the one on Gordon Highway. Can't bring myself to eat any KK donuts since the article about the homeless pooping in the trucks. If your sales have recently declined at that store, there is your reason. Word to wise KK, next time don't tell us. Ugh.
