Visitors attending meetings, reunions, sporting competitions and other events in the Augusta area will generate at least $2.4 million in spending in January, according to the monthly prediction of the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Augusta Sports Council.

Direct visitor spending is based on the number of overnight hotel rooms occupied.

The largest event listed for January is the Augusta Cutting Horse Futurity, starting Jan. 20, with an attendance of 2,700 and visitor spending of $1.8 million.
