COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Those expecting to load up on cheap Hostess Twinkies at the bakery outlet in front of the Dolly Madison plant Sunday morning were disappointed.

About a dozen cars showed at 9 a.m. only to find the gates to the parking lot locked, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports.

The Columbus plant is the only one that was producing Hostess products in Georgia.

Signs said the store would open today at 9 a.m. No reason for the change of plans by the company was given.

Other bakery outlets featuring the sweet cakes opened their doors around the country and news reports had the product selling out quickly.

It was Nov. 16 that Hostess announced it was filing for bankruptcy.

It shut down 33 snack food factories and 565 distribution centers but kept open for a brief time 570 bakery retail stores to sell any products remaining in inventory.

Locally, about 400 workers were put out of work.
