TBonz will open its first restaurant in Columbia County next week.
The steakhouse, well-established in Richmond County, will open its new restaurant Tuesday on North Belair Road.
TBonz owner Tom Jastrom said a lot of factors led to opening the restaurant just eight miles down Washington Road from the Augusta TBonz.
“The growth in Columbia County certainly had a lot to do with it,” he said. “And this is the kind of place that seems to fit in Columbia County.”
Jastrom said they looked at several locations before closing on the old Stonecrest Steakhouse in late July. He said it took about four months to prepare for Tuesday’s opening and admitted that for a while, TBonz might be a work in progress. He said the new location is not as visible or easily accessed as the Washington Road store.
“The location is a challenge,” he said. “Being offset, you better not mess up too many times.”
Suzanne Sinisgalli, the new restaurant’s manager, said having an established brand is helpful. She said that although the dishes that have made TBonz something of an Augusta institution will remain, running a privately owned business provides a freedom and Columbia County-specific menu items could appear from time to time.
“There’s always room to be creative,” she said.
TBonz will be open from 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 3 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
