Visitors attending meetings, reunions, events and sporting events in the Augusta area will generate at least $2.4 million in spending in October, according to the monthly prediction of the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Augusta Sports Council.

Direct visitor spending is based on the number of overnight hotel rooms occupied.

The largest event listed for October is the Boshear’s SkyFest, held from Oct. 18-21, with an attendance of 21,100. Drawing a mostly local crowd, visitor spending will be about $43,000.

Events with the biggest money impact are the CSRA Bridge Club’s regional meeting, beginning Oct. 29, with 1,000 visitors and $606,000 in spending; and the American Society of Quality conference beginning Friday, with 300 attendees and $515,000 in spending.

Last year, the bureau anticipated $1.7 million in visitor spending for October.
