Marlin & Rays seafood restaurant to open on Bobby Jones Expressway in Augusta

  • Follow Local Business

Ruby Tuesday is converting its Bobby Jones Expressway location into a seafood restaurant.

Marlin & Ray’s Seafood and Sunsets is scheduled to open in late October or November at 499 Bobby Jones Expressway, said Richard Flaherty, Ruby Tuesday’s vice president of new concepts.

Marlin & Ray’s and Ruby Tuesday are both owned by Ruby Tuesday Inc., which has been converting Ruby Tuesdays into its seafood concept eateries for the past year.

The Aiken-Augusta area has four Ruby Tuesday restaurants. Flaherty said the location for Marlin & Ray’s was chosen based on site data and a need for a seafood restaurant in the area.

“We have other Ruby Tuesdays that will benefit from the closing, but most importantly, we see great opportunity in bringing our fun, vacation-style seafood restaurant to the Augusta community,” Flaherty said.

Marlin & Ray’s will begin hiring in October and plans to hire more than 80 employees.

Some renovations will be completed at the restaurant, Flaherty said.

The Augusta restaurant will be the 13th Marlin & Ray’s location for the company. Maryville, Tenn.-based Ruby Tuesday Inc. has company-owned and franchise Ruby Tuesday brand restaurants in 46 states and 15 countries.

Ruby Tuesday has restaurants at 1183 Knox Ave. in North Augusta, 4203 Washington Road in Evans and 2285 Whiskey Road in Aiken.

Chains

A lot of chain restaurants have no soul. Cookie cutter blah experiences for the most part with too much fried food. The only way I would eat at a Ruby Tuesday's is if they offered a lap dance.

Jake, That Was Funny

Of course they may bring out the big fat cook from the kitchen to give you the lap dance.

Lap dance

Good one RM1. I also thought the same thing about the baseball teams.

Ruby's in general started losing it back in 2000...

But it is a good thing they dropped that Ruby's and moved to completely different restaurant. Seafood should be a safe bet, considering every other type of food is being served better within 1 mile

They kept playing with the menu items, trying this and trying that. Different themes and styles it was just too many changes in to short of period time. It lost any Identity it had. The wife said the place had 6 months at most, 2 months ago.

BTW: To the Owner. About 2 months ago, our last time before we gave up on the location. The waiter working our table showed up 3 times Order, Meal, Check. He was too busy using most of his time sweet talking or hoovering over every unescorted female(s), seated any where in the place, or coming in the door.

NoNoc, how much 'tenshun' you want?

Order, meal, check is okay with me. If I want something else I can get his attention. Hey, a young waiter guy talking to the single women, what's wrong with that? I'd have given him a big tip and told him to go for it.

Ruby's needs to be totally
Unpublished

Ruby's needs to be totally reinvented. Not a fan of chain restaurants, in general, but RT's has to be the one scraping the bottom...especially the one in North Augusta...lousy service and even worse food. Someone please bring decent place to eat to North Augusta.

All those chains remind me of

All those chains remind me of the movie Office Space where Jeniffer Anniston worked. Chochki's and Flingers. Funny and generic.

Riverman1 - Regarding attention

I guess I should lighten up.

Don't even strip bars offer refills on drinks and a revisit to ask about additional offers like dessert? ;-)

Only ate at Ruby Tuesday

Only ate at Ruby Tuesday twice, last time just a few weeks ago and must have hit the one in North Augusta just right because we had excellent service and the food was great. Not one of my favorite places but we were hungry, it looked descent, and wasn't a fast food hamburger.

nonoc, I don't want the server to constantly come back. If I need
something I would signal. Nothing bothers me more than to have someone interupt my conversation with my wife a bunch of times at dinner or lunch.

Too bad.

I used to be a regular at that one. Stopped going, though. Several problems: we must have had the same waiter-- called my date and I, "you guys." You were fortunate; to get three whole visits because I had to go up to the station and ask for the check, and if it hadn't been for the other waitstaff our food may never have arrived.

Another problem is with the chain; I swear they must have a press in the kitchen because I don't think I ever saw the same menu twice. Try something and like it and it was never again on offer. Tried their Sunday brunch in several other places, though; that is good.
