Olin posts $47.6 million profit

Chemical manufacturer Olin Corp. reported higher profits Tuesday improved pricing and higher sales volumes.

The Missouri-based company reported net income of $47.6 million, or 59 cents a share, in the second quarter, up from a profit of $42.1 million, or 52 cents a share, a year ago.

Olin has a chlorine production plant in east Augusta.

Chlor Alkali product sales for the quarter were $363.2 million, down from $380.3 million in the second quarter of 2011. Chlorine and caustic soda volumes decreased 11 percent compared to the second quarter 2011 levels.
