Unemployment claims drop in Augusta in February

Initial claims for unemployment insurance were lower in February for the Augusta metro area, the Georgia Department of Labor reported Thursday.

There were 1,489 first-time claims for unemployment, down from 2,808 in January, and lower than the 1,679 claims filed in February 2011.

According to the labor department, all the major metro areas in Georgia saw a decline in the number of people seeking unemployment benefits.
