Augusta Tech to host nuclear workforce training academy

Augusta Technical College will host a five-week Nuclear Workforce Initiative Academy from May 7 to June 7.

The project is a partnership with the Richmond/Burke Job Training Authority and East Central Georgia Workforce Development Consortium.

Participants will learn about careers and college programs in the nuclear industry, which has created thousands of jobs in the region through Savannah River Site and Plant Vogtle.

Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 21, have a high school diploma or GED, meet Workforce Investment Act eligibility requirements and not be enrolled in college. There are a total of 24 training slots for the Richmond/Burke and the East Central Georgia Consortium areas.

Richmond County residents interested in applying should call Richmond/Burke Job Training Authority Youth Services at (706) 721-1858; in Burke County, call (706) 437-6906; and in other counties served by East Central Georgia Consortium, call (706) 595-8941.
