Deputies: Man arrested after stabbing wife during Greenville County Bible study session

GREER, S.C. — A woman whose husband stabbed her during a Bible-study meeting has been hospitalized, Greenville County deputies say.

Deputies say they arrived at the Kingdom Hall in Greer on Thursday afternoon and found several congregation members in the sanctuary holding 46-year-old Leonard Edwards Jr. Edwards' wife was on the floor with a stab wound to the back.

Witnesses told authorities that Leonard Edwards arrived while his wife was attending the Bible study. The two went outside briefly, but then she ran back inside. Witnesses said she was followed by Edwards, who had a knife and stabbed her in the back.

Edwards was being held in jail Friday on attempted murder and weapons charges. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
