A man was arrested Friday evening while celebrating his lottery win of $2,000.

According to Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser, Aaron Colby Whitaker, 24, purchased the winning ticket at Super Express on Peach Orchard Road around 7 p.m. After discovering he had won, Whitaker celebrated by firing a gun while driving down the 2200 block of Bungalow Road around 10:40 p.m.

Whitaker was charged with discharging a firearm. His passenger, Joshua Pope, 21, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Whitaker has been released on a $1,300 bond, Dresser said.

What is wrong with you guys.

What is wrong with you guys. This person was trying to celebrate. There are people in this world who celebrate by firing their weapons in the air. Not a smart thing to do but is does limit their belief system.

Exactly CG. Winning 2 grand

Exactly CG. Winning 2 grand is worth a fist pump or two, maybe a round of drinks for your buddies or something; but firing off a weapon illegally?

I guess of he won a million he would stroke out on the spot.

@nothin2show4it - You're joking, right ? In the wide open spaces, like a cattle ranch, maybe this is acceptable for expressing your excitement. In a residential area, this was stupid. And hopefully, his buddy will go back to jail for his stupidity.

Nope, he ain't got $700 left.

Nope, he ain't got $700 left. I am sure that the time between 7:00 and 10:40 he was getting him and his buddy a few beers. And he will still have to pay a fine and court costs, and if he is smart, a lawyer. I suspect he is going to be way in the hole on this "win". Idiot.

I can't believe there are

I can't believe there are people that still do such a stupid and dangerous thing. It is unsafe to shoot a gun in the air. The bullet is going to end up somewhere and that somewhere usually doesn't fare too well.

I guess this shows that not everyone can handle a little extra cash. You have to feel a little sorry for him in that he just doesn't "get it". I hope this will be a good new beginning for him.

GaStang22... How should I

GaStang22... How should I respond to your comment... Hmmm... I hope he was shooting in the air rather than at something or someone. Either way it is stupid to do and Richmond Co thinks is criminal. I would agree.

My first comment was tongue-in-cheek but it appears people didn't read it that way.
