Lottery win celebration leads to arrest

A man was arrested Friday evening while celebrating his lottery win of $2,000.

According to Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser, Aaron Colby Whitaker, 24, purchased the winning ticket at Super Express on Peach Orchard Road around 7 p.m. After discovering he had won, Whitaker celebrated by firing a gun while driving down the 2200 block of Bungalow Road around 10:40 p.m.

Whitaker was charged with discharging a firearm. His passenger, Joshua Pope, 21, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Whitaker has been released on a $1,300 bond, Dresser said.
