A wreck in Aiken County early Saturday killed one teenager and critically injured another.

According to a news release from the Aiken County coroner, the crash happened about 1:30 a.m.

The deceased driver was identified as Justin G. Cantwell, 18, of Ridge Spring. His injured passenger has been identified as Dustin Day, 17, of Aiken.

The coroner said the 2003 GMC Sierra truck was traveling north on Piper Road when Cantwell lost control, went into a ditch and hit a utility pole, causing the vehicle to overturn and eject both occupants. Neither was wearing seat belts.

Day is in critical condition at Georgia Regents Medical Center.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor, the coroner said. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating, and toxicology tests are pending.
