AIKEN — A 26-year-old woman is in jail after her arrest on a murder charge nearly five years after police said she stabbed her mother.

Christina Mavris has been booked into the Aiken County Detention Center after warrants were taken out for her arrest Friday.

Mavris is charged in the May 3, 2007, slaying of her mother, Dana Davis, a 55-year-old teacher at Schofield Middle School.

Investigators said Mavris fatally stabbed her mother at home in the 1200 block of Hahn Avenue in Crosland Park and then set fire to the home.

At least 10 previous police reports dating back to 2003 show a history of violence and erratic behavior by the woman toward her mother, according to The Augusta Chronicle archives.

Mavris was originally arrested on an unrelated bench warrant and taken to the Aiken County Detention Center. At the time she was not considered a suspect.

Nearly a week after the stabbing, Mavris was charged.

But Mavris, who had schizophrenia, was deemed incompetent to stand trial and was hospitalized with the South Carolina Department of Mental Heath in 2010.

Now she has been released from hospitalization and transferred to the Aiken Detention Center.

Sseems to me if she was
Unpublished

Sseems to me if she was deemed incompetent and unable to stand
trial that his was be a waste of taxpayers money to try her now even
if she is competent at this time. She would have to be competent at the time the crime was committed I would assume!
