Southern Bank & Trust recently donated a $10,000 check to the University of South Carolina Aiken’s School of Business Administration for the establishment of an endowed scholarship.
The scholarship will be awarded to a student with a financial need and a GPA of 3.0 or higher in USC Aiken’s School of Business Administration.
Darrell Rains, the group vice president and chief financial officer for Southern Bank & Trust, presented the donation to Dr. Richard Heiens, a business administration professor. Rains graduated from the school in 1979.
“It’s an honor and privilege to be able to give back to the community in this way,” Rains said. “We recognize and appreciate the important role USC Aiken plays in the CSRA and we hope that a deserving student will be able to further their education because of this scholarship.”
Heiens said the donation is greatly appreciated and is vital for students.
“Donations, such as the recent scholarship award generously contributed by Southern Bank & Trust, can do much to help offset the cost of attending college for our brightest and most capable students, can help improve college retention rates, and can ultimately have an impact on the availability of talented and well-trained future employees,” he said. “As such, we are deeply grateful for the donation from Southern Bank & Trust and we expect their contribution to ultimately pay dividends to the entire business community of the CSRA.”
This is the second time Southern Bank & Trust has donated to the School of Business Administration, having done so last in 2008 with a $10,000 contribution for an endowed faculty award for a School of Business Faculty member who exhibited excellence in teaching.
