The joint program between the two institutions will begin April 21 at ASU’s Allgood Hall, offering an intensive 10-week program to prepare participants for the CPA exam. The program has been designed in keeping with some major changes with the exam and will involve senior accounting faculty from both universities conducting the sessions.
Jerry Engeholm, who has been teaching part-time at USC Aiken since 2009 and has 20 years of Wall Street experience, brought the idea for the program to the Aiken-Augusta area after being requested to develop and implement a similar offering where he previously taught at Pace University in New York City. So Engeholm asked David Harrison, the interim dean of the USC Aiken School of Business, about developing a similar program started locally, knowing that CPA candidates from the Aiken-Augusta area currently have to go to Columbia; Charlotte, N.C.; Atlanta; or Athens, Ga., for a CPA Review Program. Harrison agreed and suggested ASU also be brought into the plan.
The program will offer two sessions that will run concurrently from April 21 through June 30: Session I is Financial Accounting and Reporting and Session II is Auditing and Attestation. The cost for each course is $700 if the participant registers by April 6. After that, the cost is $900 per course. The price excludes the cost of course materials by Bisk Education, which are $135 per course. The courses will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
