James Billy Gomillion III, of Newberry Street, was charged with strong-arm robbery in the Sunday theft of the money box from the Whiskey Road Walmart, Aiken Public Safety Sgt. Jake Mahoney said Wednesday night.
Gomillion turned himself in to police Wednesday afternoon after investigators searched several of his last-known addresses. The money box and the cash stolen, roughly $1,000, were not recovered. Gomillion was taken to the Aiken County Detention Center.
At 5:45 p.m. Sunday, police said, a thief dressed in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pajama pants, with his Batman underwear showing, snatched the cash box and fled through the back of the store, in the process losing his white University of Georgia hat with the word “Cook” embroidered on the side.
