Fire damages 3 downtown Aiken businesses

A fire Tuesday morning that damaged three downtown Aiken businesses started at Griffin’s Pub, 204 The Alley, Aiken Public Safety said.

Aiken County sheriff’s Deputy Justin Goodwin noticed smoke in the area around 5:30 a.m. while patrolling the downtown district, according to an Aiken Public Safety news release.

Fire crews found heavy smoke in the restaurant and flames in the kitchen area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Galley J hair salon, 202 The Alley, and a business on the other side of Griffin’s Pub sustained smoke damage.

Units cleared the scene at 8 a.m. No injuries were reported.
