More than 20 pupils from Warrenville Elementary were taken to hospitals Thursday morning after their school bus ran into a ditch.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol was called about 7 a.m. to Briar Patch Lane in Warrenville, where the driver, Shirley Couch, 61, had driven off the left side of the road, Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said.

The driver was not injured, but all 22 pupils were taken to hospitals, Jones said. One of the children was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, and the others were taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers for evaluation.

Couch was charged with driving too fast for conditions. It has not been determined why the driver drove off the road, Jones said.
