A sketch of a rape suspect has generated few leads for Aiken County sheriff’s investigators who are searching for a bearded man who assaulted a woman on Jan. 3.
“We’ve had a few leads come in, but those that have come in have not panned out,” Aiken sheriff’s Capt. Troy Elwell said.
Elwell said the 24-year-old woman told officers she had stepped outside her home on Kiwi Court to check her mail about 9:30 a.m.
“She left her front door unlocked,” Elwell said. “When she came back inside, she was met in her den by a black male who put a gun to her head.”
The man forced her to undress at gunpoint and then sexually assaulted her, he said.
The suspect left after the assault and did not take anything from the home, Elwell said.
Officers immediately searched the area with the Aiken Bloodhound Tracking Team but were unable to locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as a 30- to 40-year-old black male with a goatee.
He is estimated to be 6-feet tall and 200 pounds.
He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a green shirt and was armed with a small black pistol.
Elwell urged anyone who may know someone who resembles the sketch to call police at once.
“Don’t hesitate to call because we would like to talk with anyone that might match that description,” he said.
