Gov. Nikki Haley to hold town hall meeting in Aiken

Nikki Haley: Governor will hold seven town hall meetings across South Carolina, including one in Aiken on Wednesday.

Gov. Nikki Haley will stop in Aiken on Wednesday to unveil her report cards for South Carolina legislators.

The Aiken trip is one of seven town hall meetings Haley will be holding across the state in an effort to provide more transparency in government and accountability for elected officials.

The free event will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Aiken City Hall’s Municipal Auditorium.

“The governor promised during her campaign that South Carolina would hear from her early and often,” said Rob Godfrey, the spokesman for the governor. “This is a chance for people to come out and hear what has been happening, and also their role in being a part of what the governor is doing.”

In a letter posted on her Web site in March 2010, Haley promised that her administration would work hard to provide voters with easily accessible information about how their legislators vote in regard to key legislation.

“This is not personal. It is not partisan. It is good government,” she wrote in the letter. “Your voice is loud and clear: you want more transparency, more accountability, more efficiency, and you want it done with less of your money.”
