Students at nine Aiken County public schools are eligible to receive free, private tutoring under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
The law says that schools receiving federal funds for having high concentrations of students in low-income families that have not made “adequate yearly progress” benchmarks for three or more years must offer this tutoring, officially known as supplemental educational services.
The Aiken County schools offering the tutoring are: Aiken Middle School, Aiken Performing Arts Academy, Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle School, Lloyd Kennedy Charter School, Paul Knox Middle School, Redcliffe Elementary School, Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary/Middle School, Ridge Spring–Monetta High School and Schofield Middle School.
Parents of students in these schools who are interested in receiving free tutoring for their children should contact the school no later than Nov. 11. To guide parents in their decision, a brief description of the services offered by each provider is available at the school, through the Office of Federal Programs, or on the school district’s Web site at www.aiken.k12.sc.us.
A limited number of spaces is available. In compliance with federal law, priority will be given to the lowest-achieving students.
