Richmond County sheriff's Sgt. Dan Carrier said a motive wasn't known in the killing of Steve Mikel, who was shot at least twice.

Suspect Judy Washington, 52, of the 1700 block of Essie McIntyre Boulevard, was an acquaintance of Mikel from the neighborhood but they were not romantically involved, Carrier said.

Mikel, 45, was shot shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, authorities say. He died less than an hour later at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

Witnesses helped deputies identify Washington, who was arrested on 15th Street, Carrier said.

Several people were at the scene at the time of the shooting, he said.

Washington was charged with murder, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. She is being held in the Richmond County jail.

Carrier could not release further details of the investigation, but he confirmed the incident was not drug-related.
A n autopsy is scheduled for today at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation 's Augusta lab.

"on Ramsey Street. He later died at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

Deputies later arrested Judy Washington, 52, of the 1700 block of Essie McIntyre Boulevard"

If she shot him at her home she might have a defense but she shot him somewhere else, so it looks bad.

Judy isn't new to the law,

Judy isn't new to the law, but still likely the two were involved personally.
Regardless, it doesn't look very good for her.

This cannot be true. Every

This cannot be true. Every liberal knows that if you make a person's owning a gun illegal, they won't. That's the premise to keep the rest of us safe from criminals.

There is NO WAY this could be

There is NO WAY this could be self defense because the victim was in a wheel chair. He had been paralyzed for about 22 years. My condolences go out to the family. I grew with the victim and his siblings in Laura Hills. Yes he stayed on Bellemeade at on time, but he grew up on Ridge Rd.

A teenager released from jail after 13 days of a prison sentence and no comments are allowed. Yet all kinds of comments are allowed here. Different day, same old manure.

Maybe the difference is she a minor or there were too many nasty comments about the victim, I missed the comments before they were pulled, but not a race thing. But I do agree, comments should have been allowed on her story. She wants to play criminal, let her be treated like one. Seeing all the nasty comments and disgust from the public is part of the consequences.

Thank you to those who made

Thank you to those who made positive comments. For those that chose not to, may God bless you because you just don't know. Everyone who knew Steve would agree, he was an amazing, loving guy. Not perfect but he did absolutely nothing to warrant him being murdered. Since I understand "the need to know," Steve's death is a result of an altercation. Nothing more, nothing less. An altercation wherein Steve used words, and Judy "allegedly" used a gun. He and Judy were not "involved" and Steve had not and was not engaging in any crime whatsoever. When you make comments about a victim, please take care to know that the victim's loved ones may read your comments. We are hurting enough. We do not need negative insinuations to instigate more hurt. May God bless each of you and may you never know the pain associated with losing a loved one through a senseless murder.
