A 22-year-old Alabama woman was killed Monday night in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 near mile marker 36 in Aiken County.

Stephanie L. McCoy, of Warrior, Ala., was in the front passenger seat of a 2005 Toyota Corolla driven by Briana McComb, also 22, of Hayden, Ala., according to a news release from Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

McComb was driving in the westbound lane when she tried to avoid a petroleum tanker that was driving at a lower speed on a hill, the release said. McComb struck the tanker on the left rear with the passenger side of her car where McCoy was sleeping. McCoy was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple body trauma, and McComb was transported to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening , the release said. The driver of the tanker, Lewis Hill of Augusta, was not injured.

This is the 22nd traffic fatality in Aiken County in 2010. Alcohol or drugs are not thought to have contributed to the wreck, Carlton said.

No alcohol or drugs, but I

No alcohol or drugs, but I wonder how fast she was going? I've been scared dozens of times by people who are trying to pass by squeezing through a tiny gap between vehicles in two lanes.

It's not worth someone's life to not wait a minute or two until it's safe to pass.
