FBI: Suspect in North Carolina murder case believed to be in area

The Federal Bureau of Investigation needs the public’s help in locating a suspect wanted in connection with a North Carolina murder investigation, according to an FBI news release.


Jayquwan Lamar Newmones, who is believed to be in the Augusta area, is charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in the case. He is also wanted on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony larceny of a motor vehicle.

Two other suspects connected with the murder case were arrested in Augusta on Feb. 11.

Khalif Muhammed Newmones, 25, of Belhaven, North Carolina, and Alicia Hassona Polen, 27, of Augusta, are facing state charges of accessory after the fact to murder and are being held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina is leading the investigation with assistance from the FBI, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
