Butler High School basketball player arrested for simple battery on disabled volunteer

The Butler High School basketball player accused of beating a disabled volunteer in the locker room at Jefferson County High School on Jan. 30 has been arrested and charged with one count of simple battery.

According to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, 17-year-old Jyheem Rollins was contacted by phone by the sheriff’s office after the Richmond County Board of Education police turned over a case file about the incident.

Rollins turned himself in Friday afternoon and was arrested, interviewed and booked into the Jefferson County jail. He was released on a $1,500 property bond and will return to court at a later date.
