Two students at South Aiken High School have been arrested after one student brought a BB gun to the campus and another was found carrying a knife.
According to Aiken County Public School District Director of Communications Merry Glenne Piccolino, a student at South Aiken reported that another student on campus was in possession of a weapon on Monday just after noon. The school’s resource officer and administration responded and recovered a BB gun from the student’s backpack. Aiken Public Safety was contacted and the student was arrested.
A second student was later investigated for planning to trade weapons with the first student. During the investigation, a knife was found on the student who was then arrested.
“Carrying any object that resembles a weapon on school property is a violation of both the law and our student Code of Conduct,” Superintendent Sean Alford said. “We are committed to ensuring nurturing and safe learning environments for all students and staff and simply have a zero-tolerance policy for weapons-related violations.”
