Authorities arrest fugitive living in Augusta for decades under assumed name


An Ohio fugitive who has been living in Augusta under an assumed name for nearly three decades has been arrested , according to Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

James Patrick Dowiak, 63, was arrested at his home at 222 1/2 Reynolds St., Friday morning on an outstanding out-of-state warrant from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, Adult Parole Authority, a news release from the office states. U.S. marshals from the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Southern District of Georgia arrested Dowiak.

Dowiak has been living in Augusta under the assumed name Ryan Scott Oalson since 1990 and has eluded capture for 28 years, it states.

He was taken to the Richmond County jail where he is awaiting extradition back to Ohio, according to the news release. Additional information on the warrant hasn’t been provided yet.
