Two students to represent Columbia County at regional spelling bee

Two Columbia County students will represent the district at the regional spelling bee.

Brookwood Elementary fifth-grader Matthew Basila won the district spelling bee Monday night held at Harlem Middle School by correctly spelling the word forsythia.

Riverside Middle School seventh-grader Nathan Stewart was runner-up. Brandon Cole Sweitzer, 7th grader at Columbia Middle School, came in third place, and Riverside Elementary fourth-grader Glory Bright placed fourth.

Matthew and Nathan will compete in the regional spelling bee at Putnam County Elementary School on Feb. 24.
