The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Wednesday shooting at an Augusta club that left one man with minor injuries.
The incident occurred at 1:30 a.m. at the 3DL club on Gordon Highway, according to a sheriff’s office report.
Bertram Owens, 43, of Augusta, was found laying on the ground with a “small scrape” on his right calf that “appeared to be a grazing wound,” the report states. Owens was treated at the scene and declined to be taken to an area hospital,. No other injuries were reported.
Owens told authorities he was standing on the sidewalk when he was shot.
About 50 patrons were outside when the shots were fired, the report states.
A deputy leaving the club’s parking lot saw a white Chevrolet Tahoe traveling east on Gordon Highway, in front of the club, and heard several gunshots come from the area, according to the report. The deputy activated his emergency lights but the driver sped up, it states.
A chase ensued east on Gordon Highway and into South Carolina, ending after the driver attempted to flee on foot. The driver and four other occupants were arrested, the report states.
