Columbia County authorities investigating rape accusation

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a rape accusation involving a young woman at a Martinez residence Saturday.

Witnesses told deputies the 19-year-old was at the 3626 Phillips Drive residence Saturday and that they had all been drinking throughout the night, according to a police report.

At some point into the morning the victim went to lay down in a spare bedroom and the man accused of rape followed her into the room, the police report states. Witnesses said she then left the room crying and told them she had been raped, according to the police report.

The two witnesses told authorities they confronted the man and an argument ensued. The argument soon escalated into a fight during which a female witness fired a Glock .40 caliber pistol into the living room floor to scare the man into leaving, according to the police report.

Witnesses stated that the man left but returned and started a fight with another man.

The female witness fired a second shot into the ground in an attempt to stop the fight, prompting the man to leave, according to the police report.

The alleged victim was transported to Doctor’s Hospital ER for medical evaluation.

An investigation into the rape allegation has been turned over to CID. No arrest has been made at this time.
