Below-freezing temperatures in morning hours this week

MICHAEL HOLAHAN/Staff The cold weather settling into the area makes a snow family happy as Hayden Rourke, 15, rides his skateboard in Evans Towne Center Park on Friday.

As the rest of the country sees snow and ice, the Augusta area will see temperatures dropping into the 20s, but no precipitation is in the forecast.

Today’s afternoon high of 45 degrees will mean ringing in the new year around 30 degrees at midnight before temperatures drop to 26 on Monday morning. The high for Monday will be 37 and a wind chill of 30.

As many return to work Tuesday, the morning low will be around 20, with a wind chill of 11 and a high of 38 later that day.

Wednesday’s and Thursday’s lows will be in the low to mid-20s, with highs in the low 40s.

With below freezing temperatures, proper precautions should be made, including: Bring pets inside or provide warm shelter for them.

Turn off sprinklers to prevent water from becoming ice on roads. Also, be cautious of ice while driving.

Bring houseplants inside.
