Burke County man arrested on felony theft by receiving counts

One man is in jail on felony theft by receiving stolen property charges after authorities recovered stolen equipment worth more than $56,000 from a home in Burke County.

According to a news release, at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office investigators found Corey Whisnant was in possession of a Bobcat Trencher attachment stolen from Jacobs Land Management.

Whisnant agreed to allow investigators to search property in the 100 block of Nita Walden Road across the Burke County line in Blythe.

Burke County investigators located a Bobcat MT85, John Deer lawn mower, John Deer utility tractor, a 2015 Lark United enclosed trailer and a PermaGreen spreader belonging to Jacobs Land Management on the property. The equipment, valued at more than $56,000, was returned to its owner.

Richmond County charged Whisnant with two counts of felony theft by receiving stolen property, and Burke County charged Whisnant with five counts of felony theft by receiving stolen property.
