Preschool director released on bond, worker remains in jail

The director of a Columbia County preschool charged with failure to report child abuse has been released on bond, while the woman accused of the abuse of two children at the facility remains in the Columbia County Detention Center.

Melinda Sue Williams, 34, was arrested Tuesday on the failure to report charge after an employee was charged with two counts of cruelty to children. Williams was released on a $1,600 bond the same day.

Shannon McCune, 27, was arrested Dec. 22 after an investigation into allegations of abuse by parents of two students in October at Foundations Christian Preschool on South Belair Road. McCune remains in jail with bond set at $35,200.

McCune is accused of striking a 4-year-old with a flag pole, leaving bruises on the child’s back and grabbing a 5-year-old child by the arm and hitting him with a yard stick on several occasions.
