Authorities issue weather advisory for Richmond County

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office issued a weather advisory for the area Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office is preparing for several nights of below freezing temperatures and wants residents and businesses to take some precautions.

Businesses and homeowners that leave sprinklers on automatic setting can result in causing an ice patch on a roadway, resulting in deputies having to direct traffic around it to prevent accidents, according to a department news release.

“We do not stand by with all of them, but in some cases, the ice patch can be several lanes wide, where we have no choice but to block it to prevent a traffic accident from occurring,” Sgt. Shane McDaniel said in the release.

The department urges residents to take proper precautions.Anyone spotting ice forming on roads can notify the sheriff’s office at (706) 821-1080.
