One man arrested, charged in Kratha Drive homicide

A Hephzibah man has been arrested and charged in a domestic dispute that led to a fatal shooting early Tuesday morning.


Jaye Alexander Williams, 26, of the 1400 block of Walton Loop, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in connection to a shooting at an Augusta residence.

Deputies responded to 1947 Kratha Drive at 1:07 a.m. after a report of shots being fired and one person injured, a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office news release states. Upon arrival officers found Robert Lee Brown Jr., 24, of the 1900 block of Kratha Drive, in the rear side yard of the residence with at least one apparent gunshot wound, the release states.

Brown was taken to AU Medical where he died from his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 1:47 a.m.

Investigation revealed that Brown was shot by Williams after an altercation involving a woman they both knew, according to the news release.

Brown’s body will be taken to the GBI Medical’s Examiner’s Office in Decatur for an autopsy.
