Augusta restaurant delivery driver uses store’s money to buy cocaine

An Augusta delivery driver is in trouble after taking a post-delivery detour to buy cocaine with the restaurant’s money.

Just after 11 p.m. Saturday, the manager of the Steak Out at 106 Pleasant Home Road contacted the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office after a delivery driver was more than an hour late returning and could not be contacted.

According to an incident report, the manager said the driver was sent to make a delivery to Columbia County. The customer said the delivery had been completed, but the driver was missing with more than $190 belonging to the business.

A deputy was able to contact the driver, who said she made the delivery, then met a drug dealer to purchase cocaine with the restaurant’s money.

The driver said she would return the money soon, but the manager said he would like to prosecute.
